values are inextricably present whether as obstacles or powerful drives in
development work: e.g. sharia law and womens empowerment in Nigeria, Hindu caste
system and poverty reduction in India, Catholicism and economic structures in
Latin America. The relationship between faith and development is a complex issue
that is difficult to avoid in practice. Yet, this relationship has been little
