East London provides an excellent context in which to engage in practical study in a wide range of academic disciplines. Many of the Centre's Tutors and Fellows are available to offer their expertise to students on placement.
The Jellicoe Community
The Centre now has a resident community of students from the Universities of Oxford and Notre Dame who live and pray at the Royal Foundation of St Katharine and work in our partner congregations developing their engagement in community organising. It is known as The Jellicoe Community in memory of Fr Basil Jellicoe, Magdalen's missioner to the slums of north-east London in the early 20th century. You can find out more about its life and work on the Jellicoe Blog.
The Jellicoe Society links students at Magdalen College, Oxford to the work of the Jellicoe Community.
Jellicoe summer internships
Last summer, fourteen students from four Oxford Colleges, the University of East London and the Church of England Diocese in Europe took part in a joint CTC/London Citizens internship - working with congregations in East London, organising action across faiths and cultures on issues of common concern. Contact the Centre Director for information on the 2010 summer internship programme.
Internship in Catholic social teaching
The University of Notre Dame London Centre has an undergraduate internship programme with the Centre. Placement work in parishes in London Citizens is combined with supervised reflection on the relationship between citizen organising and Catholic social teaching.
