East London provides an excellent context in which to engage in practical study in a wide range of academic disciplines. Many of the Centre's Tutors and Fellows are available to offer their expertise to students on placement. Internship on Catholic social teaching The University of Notre Dame London Centre has an internship programme with the Centre. Placement work in parishes in London Citizens is combined with supervised reflection on the relationship between citizen organising and Catholic social teaching. "All the students described their internship as a wonderful experience. They had learned a great deal; met many fascinating people; and had become firm advocates of community building." Summer internships This summer, students from Magdalen College, St Stephen's House and Keble College in Oxford will take part in a joint CTC/London Citizens internship - working with local congregations on issues of youth safety and well-being and the treatment of migrants and refugees. This build's on Mark Hopwood's successful placement last summer - between completing his BPhil in Philosophy at Oxford University, and beginning the PhD programme at Chicago: "The last three weeks has give me an answer to the question: how am I going to do philosophy, if not from an armchair? ... What I now realise is the extent to which it is possible not just for one's philosophy to influence one's approach to a particular context, but for the context itself to influence the way one does philosophy." Longer placements Last September, the Centre welcomed Andrea Jorgol from the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, on a six-month internship in the area covered by our Gospel for Today's City programme. From October, we hope to have a student from Magdalen College, who will live and work with us after graduation. If you wish to explore these options further, click here to contact us.
